October 11, 1952: Charlie Brown Hates Coconut

A little fact for trivia: Charlie Brown hates coconut. (Actually this has been mentioned before, in a strip in which Patty pretty uses the same logic against Charlie Brown.)

July 11, 1952: Gimmie some candy!

Patty doesn't seem to be concerned about her own health, does she?

June 10, 1952: Some of us take our flavors seriously

Why did Charlie Brown even offer the red ones then?

That is quite the lurid description Violet is giving there. It's like a horror story.

April 30, 1952: Smaller characters

This strip seems a little under-depicted. Watching Snoopy sliding to a halt in the third panel seems abrupt without seeing him run in the second panel.

Look at the first panel here. The characters viewed from a distance are rendered a little more simply to simulate the increased distance from the reader. Particularly, Lucy's eyes are simple dots instead of circles, making her look a bit more like modern Lucy.

February 5, 1952: Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

I've done this very thing, although in my defense I was in the kitchen at the time, and not standing out in a field far away from a stove with which to heat the can's contents. What is required here is another application of the Yossarian School of Philosophy.

January 29, 1952: Snoopy's Pride

Snoopy doesn’t stoop to begging for treats... unless someone else might get it instead.

What kind of candy is this that it’s equally suitable for kids and dogs?

May 3, 1951: Before "sugar rush" entered the vocabulary

The Snoopy-hears-food pattern is formula; the varition is that Charlie Brown's already eaten all the candy.  Snoopy would even do this much later.

Note Charlie Brown's round eyes in frame 3.  Lucy starts out with those as standard equipment but they don't last long.  The parenthesis around her and Linus' eyes (I call them "Binkley eyes," after the Bloom County/Outland/Opus character) are a remaining vestige of that.

April 30, 1951: Pennies went farther then

Patty wears a travelling coat in this one, a decidedly 50s-ish touch.

This is the start of a minor running gag, the Peanuts kids often get candy or comics from this particular drug store, and the manager gets annoyed when they don't buy things. (Just think: Peanuts started back in the days when drug stores were still a suitable kid hang-out spot, and ended in the days of the Internet!)

January 30, 1951: Snoopy is named

At last, Snoopy is named!

NOTE: I wrote these some time in advance, scheduled to go up one a day. As has been mentioned in comments several times up to this point, Snoopy has been named before. I got all this wrong. Bleah.
