June 30, 1953: Linus' first steps
Linked for notability.
When Rerun joins the cast much later, in a way it's almost like these early strips with Linus return. Rerun looks so much like Linus, even if his personality is a little different, that it's hard to escape the conclusion that Schulz named him as a self-referential joke.

Y'know, I was 9 when Rerun was introduced, and even at the time, I assumed that Schultz was doing exactly that.
ReplyDeleteI think there's a strip that specifically mentions the origin of Rerun's name, perhaps sometime in the 1970-71 timeframe...
ReplyDeleteLucy mentions that she's getting a "rerun," and that inspires Linus to use that as a nickname, prompting Lucy to respond with a term usually reserved for Charlie Brown: "Good grief!"
