I think the real purpose of this strip was just to let Charles Schulz play around with drawing type. This had to have been easier to render than the gothic text he drew for Schroeder's German.
It's kind of amazing to think...For example, I only have one "handwriting", and I can't really change it. But Schulz is able to write in completely different fonts.
Obviously he has lots of artistic talent, but sometimes I don't think we realize how many different skills that encompasses...
Well it's not really _that_ big a deal, after all he's got straight-edges and caligraphic pens and other tools to help him. And cartoonists usually work at a larger size than you see on a comic page.
