December 14, 1951: She throws like a...

Setting aside the question of whether Violet's throwing range is realistic, this is a good example of the kind of strip that fueled Peanut's early popularity. It's just funny. Everything about it. The surprised pose from Charlie Brown in the first frame, the determined look on Violet's face throughout, the wide smile on Charlie Brown's face in the end, and the frustrated reaction from Violet.

There are a lot of funny strips coming up....

  1. My throwing range is a lot like Violet's! I have a hard time judging when to let go of whatever I'm throwing, so it usually ends up on the ground two feet in front of me.

  2. There's a Sunday strip coming up a few years down the line that is predicated on essentially the same joke as this one. In that one, it's Lucy who makes the snowball and utterly fails to hit Charlie Brown with it; the punchline is different, but I think even funnier than this one.

  3. Couldn't she just step a little closer?
