June 23, 1978: Happiness is....
It never ceases to amaze me how different the strip looked in the early days. Well, at least he stopped doing those saccharine "Happiness is..." bits.

I appreciate this.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA APRIL FOOLS!
ReplyDeleteHa! That's great.
ReplyDelete...That might actually be a subject worthy of study. Huh.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. Garfield was fall-off-your-chair funny in the first year or so - and then went completely downhill.
ReplyDeletestanharding: I actually used to be a big fan of Garfield as a kid, I had all the books going up to about #20. I still have a bunch of Garfield merchandise somewhere stored, although really it was my Mom who collected most of it. And the Garfield Saturday morning show was often inspired.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a shadow of its former self.

ReplyDeleteThis was the only April Fools joke I saw this year that genuinely made me laugh out loud for real with actual surprise!
