September 15, 1953: Well he certainly recovered quickly

Peanuts

This one's interesting because Violet shows some remorse for an awful thing she said to Charlie Brown. She actually hasn't said a lot of hurtful things yet in the strip though; that's a few years down the pike.

  1. Violet would later give Lucy a run for her money as the strip's official bitch.

  2. Actually, the argument can be made that Violet would become an even bigger bitch than Lucy, especially in their relationship to CB. Lucy has a passive-aggressive streak that makes her particularly entertaining at times. Violet, by contrast, is just stone cold.

  3. I agree pretty much. Lucy doesn't have grudges; it's her against the world, which gives her an almost feminist angle. (Which I think Lucy herself claims once or twice.) Violet just has it in for Charlie Brown.

  4. I had always wished Schulz had extended Violet's stay in the strip. Her venom was a bit different than Lucy's and I enjoyed her combative and snobby relationship with Charlie Brown in an odd way.

  6. I love her reaction to his thousand-yard stare. "Don't look at me like that - you frighten me!"
