This one is sort of a companion strip to the one two days ago, where Lucy gives Charlie Brown a (pseudo-)scientific reason not to cut bread. Anyway, I wish folks online would be as ready to admit the ultimate source of their data.
This is a very Calvin-esque attitude for Charlie Brown.
I think that women are infinitely superior to men, and I'm a man. Go Patty!
ReplyDeleteStats teachers (like me) get a particular kick out of this gag.

Calvin, nothing! Charlie Brown is a precursor to Sarah Palin and the Tea Partiers!
ReplyDeleteActually, I'd say Calvin is the more overt precursor to Sarah Palin and the Tea Partiers. In fact, Watterson, as a student of philosophy, based Calvin's personality on the principles of Calvinist theology. Calvinist theology is the underpinning and foundation of most American conservative thought. Calvin, and the Tea Party, represent the id of American Conservatism.
ReplyDeleteActually, JoshM, I think Calvin's name is just a joke on Watterson's part. Calvin does a lot of things that would make John Calvin cringe.
ReplyDeleteCV's smile in the last panel is very Calvinesque as well.
ReplyDeleteCB...duh.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's a secular six-year-old's understanding of Calvinist predestination.
ReplyDeleteThe guiding principle behind modern American politics, as I said.
