Reading this years ago, I always figured Lucy's appreciation for craftsmanship was genuine and sort of wistful. Then again, that would probably be more in character for Charlie Brown than Lucy...
I remember this from my childhood. I always thought Lucy's appreciation for the toy bins' construction was priceless. Definitely "genuine and sort of wistful," @ John Evans. She's resigned herself to being ignored by Patty, and is talking to herself mostly. And it IS a good idea to use screws instead of nails, after all.
