Sunday, February 15, 1953: Linus is scornful

Peanuts

This is the second strip in which Lucy demonstrates her great capacity for malice, after the "Don't murder me Charlie Brown" one a few months ago.

It could also be considered to be Linus' first word.

  1. Both Linus and Lucy already have those little brackets around their eyes, which no other Peanuts character has (well, Rerun does, but he's still a good twenty years off).

  2. Yep, the brackets on Lucy's eyes were originally round circles, which made her look, Schulz's own word, like a doll. That didn't last long, there's probably not more than 20 or 30 drawings with her like that. They evolved into the brackets, and Linus came on the scene with the brackets already in place.

Linus would probably seem like a rather different character if he had ever had the circles.
