February 4, 1953: Schroeder the Ordinary Kid

Peanuts

Nothing to do with music at all! Even at this early date a high percentage of the Schroeder strips concern music in some way, so it's nice to see the kid have normal childhood experiences.

  1. Was Shermy too co-ordinated to do this strip?

  2. It may well be that Shermy was too coordinated (i.e. too old) for this one. Shermy, of course, being the same age as Charlie Brown while Schroeder is still several years behind them at this point (even though he'll sort of catch up as the years progress!)

And in these early strips, Schulz did tend to give the uncoordinated physical schtick to the younger characters. A year or so later it would have been Linus.
