October 22, 1953: Linus nearly kills himself three times
Stylistically this is interesting for being composed of eight panels. It also ends with that frequent (although at this point still rarely-seen) concluding word "*sigh*".
Linus is physically uncoordinated enough that he can't safely step on or off a curb, but he's psychologically adept enough to feel despair for his inability.

Maybe he just has a concussion.
ReplyDeleteThere's at least one additional unconventional panel layout from this general era that I can recall (Linus building a seat with blocks). It is my opinion that, when Schulz abandoned the four-panel layout in the late 1980s, it actually aided his creativity in the strip's final years.
ReplyDeleteHe did do some one-panel strips later, often with several characters sitting or standing in a line, each saying something, furthering a group conversation in turn. Those were rather cool I think.
